The Summer has been long and hot - therefore we have not go as much do on old #1002.

We have however started working on the exterior again.

July 27, 2004

We have found out a little more history about our Northern Pacific caboose its ordinal number was #1002 the 3rd steel caboose made by Northern Pacific. There were 50 (form 1000 - 1049) built in 1951.

The weather has been either real cold or way hot to work to many hours on the old caboose but we have made some progress from last fall.

All the unwanted windows are now welded up. New railing has been reproduced. And Jim is working on reproducing the hand railings that are missing.

#11334 was built in January 1951 as a Northern Pacific, and in 1972 refurbished into a Burlington Northern.

We painstakingly built 40 feet of railroad track to set our British Central Caboose on.

It was delivered on August 29, 2003 at 8:00am.

Throughout #11334 life - floors have been added on top of floors and walls on top of walls and we are now in the process of removing everything from the inside getting it ready for new insulation, wall, floors and windows. We have already taken a little over 1/2 ton of stuff to the land fill, that we have removed from the inside.  All the original caboose insides were taken out before we purchased it.

From September to November 2003  we spent most our time filling in non-caboose windows. There were three extra windows cut into the sides - some time in its life. We are trying  to make the caboose look as original as possible from the outside. Therefore, we had new sheet metal cut to fit each hole, the 1/8 inch sheet metal panels were large, heavy and hard to hold into place. Jim did all the welding, grinding and sanding with great results - you can't even tell the holes were ever there.  Then the cold weather hit and we had to put a halt to the refinishing.
