1. Put Sta-bil in your tank - this will help stabilize the gas and will aid you in your start-up next spring.
2. Given that Ethanol E10 is now in most our gas and it attacks more water - the experts (at the moment) are suggesting you fill your tank full, leaving a little room for expansion. Therefore, when air passes through the fuel tank vent there will be less room for condensation to form at the top of the tank.
3. Check the tire pressures - you don't want a tire to sit under inflated all winter.
4. If your car is to be stored in a below freezing environment. Disconnect the battery and remove it. Store it in a dry above freezing area. Do not store your battery directly on a cement floor - put a wood board under it first.
5. It is nice if you can lay a vapor barrier on the floor under the car. All cement floors have moisture. We use a 6 ply plastic sheeting - we buy at the hardware store.
6. As for starting your cars engine during the winter months: It is better just to let your car sit all winter and start it in the spring when you are ready to wake it up. Unless you can completely warm it up or even take it for a little drive around the block. Otherwise, you are better off not start at all.
7. Check the concentration of your antifreeze.
8. Bleed the brakes - let your brake system sit all winter with new brake fluid.
9. Change the engine oil and filter. This is very important - do not let your car sit all winter with dirty oil in it. Oil becomes contaminated and starts to eat away at the metals.
10. Have a Happy Holiday season.
